Hello dear dA friends,

You know, when it's been nearly a year since you've submitted a new journal, it's kind of hard to jump right in and talk about what's been going on. Funny (and sad) how time slips away. If you know me even a little bit, you know I don't like to be all "gloom and doom" and full of negativity. Having said that, my mother has been very ill since last February. She's been battling breast cancer and spending time with, and caring for her has drastically reduced my online "social life," because she lives 6 hours away and doesn't have Internet. As much as I love dA, there has been little time for it and it gets the short end of the stick every time. I keep thinking that once she's past this or that hurdle, and is feeling better, then I'll be able to come back here and be as active as I used to be. But she keeps having hurdles to get past. She's had chemotherapy, surgery, radiation treatments, surgery again and now another surgery is scheduled for next week. Understandably, she is extremely weak and low, both physically and emotionally. I just want her to be well, healthy and happy again

So, I hope you guys have had a better year. I know how some of you are. Sometimes I come to dA late at night. I look at your art and read your journals and do as much as I can to keep my struggling group alive. I've been too exhausted to comment or do much of anything, but I sincerely miss you and care about what's going on with you. Truly

I send each of you great, big, warm, loving, hugs and kisses :iconsqueezehugplz: :blowkiss:

Saltwater VeinsWe chased unfamiliar coastlines,
crossed a continent of earth,
abandoned Northwest shorelines
like broken shells upon the beach;
drove straight ahead, towards looming Atlantic,
laid down roots in an East Coast state
without a shoreline.
But I missed my rocky beaches,
crashing waves swirling sea-spray
against wind-reddened cheeks,
breathing life into salted lungs.
So we chased the Atlantic northward,
up the coast, snaking up Route One,
a wending wave of rocky coastline.
I leaned to touch the water,
and it flowed fast from my fingers -
'til I turned, and
the Atlantic chased me up the beach,
caught me fast in its swell,
froze me in place as seafoam
lapped hungry at my heels,
swallowed ankles seasoned with brine.
My feet sunk into sand
locked between sea and shore
unable to move for fear of falling,
of being swallowed whole.
Then gentle waves released me
sopping wet against the sand
And now I feel the pull
of coastlines east and west
tides rent me from within,

Sehnsucht - The Winter FaeKatie stormed out the front door about a minute after arriving home. Her parents were at it again. The argument had progressed to the point where neither one was making any effort to keep their voices down. It didn't matter that Katie had SATs to study for. There was no chance of that with her parents screaming their heads off about - what was it this time? Katie listened.
Oh, God. The hairbrush. They're fighting about the hairbrush again.
That was enough for Katie to slip back out to the porch, pull on her rollerblades and go. She didn't want to be here if the cops showed up again.
Her friends liked to make fun of her for rollerblading.
"Who still does that?"
"You should try skateboarding instead - at least then you might attract some cute skater guys".
"Rollerblading? Seriously?"
Katie tried to ignore them. They didn't understand her need to escape, not just her house but her life. To Katie, rollerblading was freedom. It

This Strange World That No Longer Contains YouThey say I'm like you. I hope they're right. They've been saying it for a long time.
My parents always wonder how they ended up with such a polite, demure, sweet, pure little thing. Though of course you and everyone else know what a hellion I can be. But I certainly didn't get any of those aforementioned positive qualities from them. I have you to thank for those.
You raised the entire family and handfuls of our friends. You are Grama to the entire town. But you're my Grama, (even if you're really my great-grandmother), and I was the lucky one out of all of us who seems to have taken after you.
They tell me I'm positive. I'm strong. I'm resilient. I'm not sure I see it. But they say the same about you, and I certainly saw that. They say I'm taking news of your death positively, because I'm glad that even though I was not present, my friends were, your other grandchildren, yours because they were mine. Or perhaps the other way around. I'm sure your cooking earned me more than my
The PromiseYou promised me, my love, you see, and I shall not forget.
We climbed the tower stairs as the bell solemnly chimed.
"If life forbids our love, then in death we shall wed."
You took my hand, we kissed our last, and off the edge we stepped.
But you let go, so I alone, plunged into the night.
But you promised me, my love, you see, and I shall not forget.
So I wait for you now, my love, for I know you must regret
Your eyes were flick'ring candles as you watched me die.
"If life forbids our love, then in death we shall wed."
You'll see me there again, some night, waiting by the tower steps.
You'll take my hand, I'll lead you up, up into the sky.
You promised me, my love, you see, and I shall not forget.
The bell will toll an exaltation, before we paint the ground deep red.
I'll whisper back the words you spoke upon our midnight flight:
"If life forbids our love, then in death we shall wed."
I'll ghost a kiss across your lips, to steal your final breath
Then look into your candle-eyes, and s

Expose Yourself. Expose Deviants. Expose Art.

Where did the time go? It's been eight months since I posted a new journal. I think I'm a little obsessed with time because I'm always trying to get caught up with everything and it seems I just get more and more behind. "You're always holding on to the tail of a comet," a friend often says to me. It feels that way, too. I'd like to know what it's like to spend time (see? can't escape it) somewhere where I wouldn't have to bother with time. Do you know where or if that place exists? :hmm:

Life has been beyond hectic for me. I know you have very busy lives too and you understand. I hope you're all doing very well. I love dA and I love my dear friends on dA   I miss you when I can't be active here as much. I miss you when you can't be active here as much, too :sniff:  I'm always playing catch up here. I've just discovered some comments buried in my message center that I'm ashamed I haven't replied to—yet. "Yet"  being the operative word here. I will reply :) Hopefully it won't be nearly a year before my next journal posting *sigh*

So, I'm late with a promised feature. Please enjoy these works from the winners of The 2011 Annual Linkers Grand Ball held by dALinkSystem.

I could really use a hug right now, please. I'm a pretty private person and normally you wouldn't know anything like this about me unless you were really close to me, but I need to share this. I was away on a trip this past week and on my way back home on Saturday I was in a terrible auto accident. I'm so very thankful that my injuries are minor and no one else involved in the accident was seriously hurt either.

Life is so fleeting. I've spent a lot of time reflecting the past couple of days and the thought of something tragic happening to any one of my dear friends here is, in all honesty, more than I can bear. I admit I get too easily attached to people. It's just my nature. I really love you guys  Please don't ever disappear from my life by choice. But even if you decide to do that, I'll still consider us friends—forever! You'll always have my friendship

So, can I have a hug? I promise to hug back :tighthug::iconhugheartplz:

I'm three today—in dA years that is. I've been a member of dA for three years now. I didn't want to join though. Funny, huh? I'll explain. I wanted to give a friend a premium membership (we called them subs back in the day =P)  and in order to do that I had to join. I didn't intend to stay because I'm not an artist, but three years later I'm so glad I did. I got sucked in big time  I've grown to love the community, but most importantly I've found very good friends here. And yeah, I love those friends, too! VERY much!  I don't think it's a secret that TheFulkrum is my closest friend here. We became friends instantly and have remained close for almost the entire three years I've been here.

"Friends can be said to "fall in like" with as profound a thud as romantic partners fall in love."  ~Letty Cottin Pogrebin

I do that—"fall in like" with my friends. And I fall hard. Friendship isn't something I take lightly. My friends are valuable treasures to me. Thank you for being so kind as to befriend me. It means more than you know :tighthug:

To celebrate my third birthdAy I'm featuring some of the incredibly talented friends on my watch list. Some of these really are friends I interact with often on and/or off dA.  I'm happy to have "met" you all

I Have HopeI have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have to remember to breathe every time those words come, I don’t want to believe it. I still can’t believe it. I remember the first time my counselor looked at me and told me that my depression and anxiety might be something more. Great, I thought, What could possibly be worse than this?
Firstly, PTSD is not a disorder that only affects our war heroes, though that is what it’s commonly associated with. My own first thoughts were: “isn’t that a disorder for war veterans or someone who witnessed war first-hand?“ The truth is there are many causes for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, for example: witnessing or experiencing  incidents, such as mugging, rape, child abuse, drug abuse, illnesses, car accidents,  plane crashes, or natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes can all trigger PTSD.
However, not every person who survives a traumatic event develops PTSD, as we all

The Bombs...President Jonathan Rhymanthium Zeighermac hung himself this morning after having an emergency three a.m. meeting during which he gave the green-light on the subject of dropping an arsenal of nuclear bombs on China, North Korea, and Iran.  He is one of the first, and the few, to die before the end. There was no remorse.
At 0315 hours, President Zeighermac hung himself inside his office.  Forty-five minutes later, a couple of his aids found him swinging just above his solid oak desk.  This prompts the immediate swearing-in of Vice-President Joesph Jeremy Johnson, a direct descendent from former President Lyndon B. Johnson.  A small blip in the radar gets registered off the East Coast at 0445 hours Eastern Time and goes unnoticed by the sleeping soldier manning his post.  Vice-President Johnson is officially President at 0512 hours.  After a couple of hours of meetings with President Zeighermac's Cabinet and the Joint Chie

Sepulchral-Roses Au ContraireThere are things that some people in this world never get to experience. You might say that these little things don't matter soverymuch at all; but au contraire, darling, I'd say they're life makers.
Some people have never felt the glowing satisfaction that comes from dipping your toes into green river-bed squish after a hike. What it is to feel the smooth pebbles as they relate their gurgling lives to you. What it is to drink spring water from a spring and not a bottle [by the way, darling, that's tap water you're drinking.]
Some people have never understood what it is to lay back in grass and just stare at the sky, or to sit alone and listen. What it is to really smell the flowers and hear the birds. What it is to watch people as they live their lives: watch from a cocoon of lovely solitude.
Some people have never played in the mud or thrown a snowball at their younger brother, or even blown the seeds of a dandelion. They have never known what it is to have the mud squelch aro
